This page is for anyone who wants some prompts for writing poetry. It is specifically intended for students in my English IV – Creative Writing: Poetry class and English III – American Literature classes. Students in those classes can turn these in to me for extra credit during the Spring, 2018 semester. But anyone is welcome to read and explore the weekly prompts posted here. Poetry is an art. As such, it takes practice. The exercises posted here are created to give poets of any experience level some interesting and useful writing exercises. This page will be updated at least once per week. So check in as often as you like.

  1. Compose a poem of 8-10 lines in the voice of a person from history. Use the person’s name as the title.
